NYFW, SS13.

As London Fashion Week gets well under way, this post is dedicated to my favourite trends/looks/collections from New York Fashion Week. Admittedly, a lot was left to be desired from the collections, in my opinion, but there were a few stand out looks that caught my eye. Below are some things I picked up from the shows that impressed me.

Model Olga Sherer sporting a matador look at the Ralph Lauren show.

1. Breaking from tradition:
Both Victoria Beckham and Calvin Klein Collection broke from their traditional silhouettes by introducing mush shorter, and more playful hemlines with dashes of sheer for that introvert yet sexy appeal. By keeping the colour palettes simple, both collections were modern and innovative and they deserve a mention for taking a risk - and it paying off.
2. Fierce Fringing:
At the Marchesa show, fringing was key. Jessica Stam made a return to the runway wearing a short fringed flapper dress with beautiful bead detailing at the neck. Other notable outfits from the show include sari-like gowns with metallic fabrics under bold coloured organza.
3. Ralph Lauren:
The all-American brand took us to a bull fight this season with matador inspired looks. The matador pants with gold brocade detailing were as beautiful as the gowns that closed the show. Reports from the show said that as the designer came out for his bow, he was met with a standing ovation from journalists, bloggers and celebrities alike. A truly beautiful collection Ralph, well done.
